We forgot the story. What story? We forgot to read the Jesus story.
Of course! This was our conversation two nights ago as we settled in for the night. Reading books before bedtime has become a nightly routine. We had gotten into a routine of reading the Jesus storybook Bible. I actually felt bad that my child called me out on not reading the “Jesus” story – referring to the book. It had been a few weeks.
It is a story about a man who performed miracles, fed thousands, calmed the storm, and walked on water. A love story so strong that he sacrificed his life for our own. A story so powerful it can change life in an instant. A story that apparently has gotten into my child’s grips. So how could I forget this story?
Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
Dear Lord, Thank you that my child was able to call me out. Thank you that she somehow held me accountable for not reading the story. She is yearning to hear the stories and I need to support her. Give us time each night to read more than one book. May we always make time to read your word. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
